Mobile games continue to dominate gaming chatter on Twitter | Pocket

Twitter has revealed which games were tweeted the most on the social media platform during the first quarter of 2022.

Users created nearly 800 million gaming-related tweets during the three-month period, an increase of 52% year-over-year and 7% from the prior quarter.

In the three months, the biggest spikes in tweet volume surrounded Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Sony’s acquisition of Bungie, and the launch of Elden Ring.

The most tweeted game on the platform was miHoYo’s Genshin Impact, which has continued to maintain a strong community since its launch in September 2020.

Wordle was the second most tweeted about the game, with Twitter partly contributing to the game’s huge success. A mobile game of the same name launched in 2016 also benefited from the success of the free-to-play browser game, with downloads jumping over 171% between January and February 2022.

Chat on Twitter

Of the top 10 games tweeted globally, eight are currently playable or have mobile entries, with only Apex Legends and Elden Ring missing a mobile entry. However, some Apex Legends chatter is the result of the game’s upcoming mobile version soft-launching.

Additionally, three of the most tweeted games are mobile-exclusive, including Japan-exclusive Ensemble Stars, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage (also known as Project Sekai), and Fate/Grand Order.

Last year, 2.4 billion gaming-related tweets were posted on the platform, with the highest number coming from Japan, where mobile games are hugely popular. Rishi Chadha, global head of creative and gaming content partnerships at Twitter, said the conversation about gaming on the platform is “more important than ever”.

According to a recent report from Mozillion, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, the mobile version of the game, was the most searched mobile game from January 2021 to January 2022, with users looking for cheat codes, guides, and more.
