Mobile Commerce Bus service to help local communities

PHUKET: The Ministry of Commerce’s Phuket office has launched a program whereby a series of mobile buses will visit more than 120 areas across the island to sell essentials and consumer goods at discounted prices.

The program, the Mobile Commerce Bus service, was launched this morning (August 9) in front of the Provincial Hall and was chaired by Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew and Phuket Trade Bureau Chief Premmanee Subchokchai.

“In accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Commerce, the mobile bus project will sell products at specially reduced prices to help stimulate the basic economy while reducing the need for people to go shopping,” said Mrs. Premmanee.

“Two ‘Pho Thong’ buses will be used. Each will go to 60 different locations in three neighborhoods, 120 locations in total, starting today [Aug 9] to September 7, ”said Ms. Premmanee.

“There are more than 70 products offered at reduced prices, as well as some products with a 40 to 60% discount. The products are mainly agricultural and community products such as eggs, cooking oils, rice, sun-dried fish, hydroalcoholic hand washing gel, face masks and other items.

“We really hope the program can help people manage and lower their cost of living and minimize the risk of infection by needing to visit local markets. In addition, we hope that it can help local farmers by presenting their products to the population, ”she said.
