Leading Game Company Chooses KOP-Based Qlik to Advance Popular Mobile Games with Data Analytics

Qlik has helped SEGA Corporation, the Tokyo-based multinational video game and entertainment company, become more data-driven.

SEGA has streamlined its mobile gaming business with Qlik Sense, generating faster and deeper player insights to better engage with mobile gamers.

In recent years, SEGA has recognized the growing importance of the mobile gaming industry. To improve its mobile games, SEGA depends on data to continuously understand the changing needs of gamers and enable business and development teams to make informed decisions. Analysts of each game title must perform complex analysis, covering large amounts of game data and external data from various sources, including social media and advertisements, to improve games.

Analysts generate many routine reports to meet these analytical requirements, which often require system engineers to create algorithms incorporating new analytical indicators and external data. This manual approach made it difficult and time-consuming for analysts to obtain insights in a flexible and timely manner.

SEGA showcased Qlik’s solutions, including Qlik Sense, for integrating multiple data sources and automating routine reporting. With Qlik, analysts can independently collect, process and analyze the required data. They are also able to incorporate data from external sources without writing complex algorithms.

Analysts can now automatically generate 450 different reports, reducing the average analytical workload by 170 hours per game title. Qlik’s ability to integrate and standardize data frees up analysts’ time and allows them to focus on solving more complex tasks. They are also able to deliver information to players faster, detect problems earlier, check assumptions, plan improvements, and change direction based on market trends.

“With Qlik, we free analysts from the routine work of preparing data reports and allow them to spend more time solving complex analysis problems,” said Masaki Takeuchi, director of SEGA. “By extracting better insights from more data sources faster, our employees can better understand market movements and assess game performance from multiple perspectives. We now have a data analysis environment in which we can work more actively on the next big hit game. »

“We are excited to help SEGA perform data analytics more efficiently, leading to new insights into the game,” said Hiroshi Imai, Director of Qlik. “Thanks to Qlik’s Active Intelligence vision, SEGA can benefit from real-time information that triggers immediate actions, further developing SEGA’s data-driven corporate culture for even more exciting games.”
