Activision acquires Digital Legends for its future Call of Duty mobile games

Activision Blizzard announced today that it has acquired mobile game studio Digital Legends. The publisher’s new team will be working on an unannounced Call of Duty mobile title.

Digital Legends previously developed and released the cartoon-style shooter The Respawnables and a more realistic Call of Duty-style game, Afterpulse. The company’s history with mobile shooters likely portends the kind of game it will be making under Activision.

Chris Plummer, Head of Mobile for Activision, said of the acquisition in a statement: “Digital Legends’ mandate in developing high-quality mobile titles is unprecedented. Most importantly, our teams have already worked very closely together for much of this year. “

The first Digital Legends project under Activision will apparently be a Call of Duty mobile game, but not Call of Duty: Mobile. This follows Activision’s current modus operandi of having most, if not all, of its in-house studios work on Call of Duty in one form or another. According to Plummer’s statement, Digital Legends was already working on the game to some extent.

In addition to the acquisition, Activision also announced the name of its in-house mobile game studio: Solid State. Big surprise: this studio is also working on Call of Duty content.
