BlueStacks has made a name for itself by making Android games work on PC. And now it is launching BlueStacks X, which is a free cloud-based game streaming service for mobile games.

The Palo Alto, Calif., Based company describes BlueStacks X as the world’s leading cloud-based game streaming service for mobile titles. BlueStacks X is available on Windows 10 and 11, Mac, iOS, Android, Chromebook and Raspberry Pi. It is the only cloud gaming service on the market that offers free streaming for mobile games on all platforms and devices. .

BlueStacks X is powered by hybrid cloud technology, built in partnership with, BlueStacks’ sister company. Hybrid cloud allows the cloud to offload parts of the compute and graphics rendering to endpoints, dramatically reducing cloud costs and allowing users to enjoy a free service, said Rosen Sharma, CEO of BlueStacks, in an interview with GamesBeat.

“We are using BlueStacks X to offload some of the compute to your endpoint, as it can help lower the cost of the cloud and keep the service free,” Sharma said.

The problem with cloud gaming is that vendors have to use a huge amount of cloud servers to stream data at high speed to users’ devices. Computing is done in the cloud, not on devices. This allows users to be able to use low-end PCs, consoles or smartphones to play high-end games which are calculated on the servers. But it gets quite expensive, especially if there is a high cost for streaming to mobile devices on an operator’s network.

BlueStacks X is different because it harnesses the power of devices – no matter how small – to handle some of the IT chore, so not all data has to be streamed and computed in the cloud. That’s what Sharma means by cutting costs, and it allows BlueStacks to offer BlueStacks X as a free service, he said.

“Our terminal is capable of doing work,” he said. “So whether it’s graphics or computing in the cloud, we’re offloading some of the work to the endpoint. This drastically reduces the cost of the big cloud. It is therefore the key innovation that allows this service to be free, in addition to the use of the cloud.

BlueStacks and’s strategy is different from competitors like Microsoft’s xCloud, Nvidia’s GeForce Now, Amazon’s Luna, and Google’s Stadia. can be accessed on any device, including mobile. None of these are really direct competition, Sharma said.

The BlueStacks X service can use a native client and browsers capable of native graphics rendering. This technology works seamlessly and does not require any integration from game developers.

“Browsers like Chrome now support native graphics processing unit (GPU), and Open GL graphics support in browsers has improved a lot over the years,” said Sharma. “So if you use PC browsers, it just got a lot easier to do mobile browsers. “

It takes deep technology to partition the different pieces of a game so that the device runs on one part of it and the cloud runs on the rest, Sharma said. It must be smart enough to calculate if the network is fast enough or if more calculations need to be done on the local device.

In another development, the company allows Discord users to integrate the cloud gaming service into their Discord servers. This means that you can play games with friends on the Discord server, which allows creators to get better engagement with fans.

BlueStack’s first product, the BlueStacks App Player, recently surpassed one billion lifetime downloads. BlueStacks X is a natural next step for the business, as the hybrid cloud makes the launch of the service economically viable. This first company grew organically and allowed the company to work on BlueStacks X.

BlueStacks X is accessible through the mobile browser on iOS, Android, Windows 11, Mac, Chromebooks, and even some smart TVs. The native BlueStacks X client is available on Windows 11, Windows 10, and earlier versions of Windows. BlueStacks X can also be used by BlueStacks App Player users and is available for free in 14 countries.

BlueStacks X (beta) already has over 200 games with several new games being added every week. The service offers a large collection of role-playing and strategy games, with more genres being added over time. The company employs more than 400 people.

Players in 100 countries and six continents play over six billion gaming sessions with 70,000 different games in 2020 on BlueStacks.
